The Ascended Masters have all been where we are today, have faced the same challenges, and have mastered them by mastering themselves, for all Attainment comes from within out. As unascended men and women, they did not seclude themselves from the world, but lived at the very center of the events of their day. However, they did not allow outer circumstances to overtake them. Rather, they made their God Presence the center of their being and, from within the Reality of their I AM Presence, they mastered the forces of nature within themselves and thus were undeterred by forces outside of themselves.
Having become their I AM Presence-in-Action upon the Earth, they were able, as did Jesus, to ascend into the fullness of their Presence at the conclusion of their final incarnation.
Now, as Masters of Life, they have vowed to assist our struggling humanity to fulfill its Divine Destiny through imparting their Love, their Light, their Wisdom, their very Life — and are urging us to boldly follow in their footsteps. As Jesus instructed, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all else will be given unto thee." To be wrapped in the Radiance of an Ascended Master is to touch the coattails of Heaven. This is but one of the many Blessings awaiting those determined to pursue their Divine Destiny.

Ascended masters are enlightened spiritual beings who once lived on earth just like we do. Over the course of many lifetimes of devotion and striving, they fulfilled their mission and reason for being—their divine plan—and ascended back to their divine source, reuniting with Spirit. Though they once had physical bodies like we wear, they now dwell in the heaven world, or etheric octave, and have bodies of light. They come from every era, culture and religion, and they are united in what is called the “Great White Brotherhood.” The term “white” has nothing to do with race but instead refers to the tremendous white light surrounding their forms.
When ascended beings are entirely free of negative karma, they can choose where in the universe they would like to serve. They may choose to continue evolving with earth or to move on to other worlds. Many ascended masters have chosen to stay connected with souls on earth to guide them on the path of soul development and self-transcendence, which they themselves have fully achieved. They are the true teachers of mankind, directing the spiritual evolution of all those who desire to reunite with divine consciousness, or God.
The ascended masters work with us to show us the way to peace, truth and enlightenment. Some of them have spiritual retreats in the etheric octave surrounding the earth where we can go to study. We can travel to these retreats in our spiritual, or etheric, bodies while our physical bodies are asleep. The angels and Elohim also have etheric retreats where we can go to receive infusions of light, healing, blessing, correction and instruction that will help us in our daily life and in fulfilling our unique mission, our divine plan.
Eight of the ascended masters working most closely with mankind are called “chohans of the rays.” Chohan is a term that is used to mean “lord” or “master.” It is a title of respect and honor, and a specific chohan presides over each of the seven rays. These seven chohans, or lords, of the rays have specialized in applying the qualities of their ray throughout their many incarnations on earth, and they can instruct us in how to gain self-mastery on that ray.
Though we all have natural preferences and tendencies that draw us toward one or two of the rays, each of us must develop a certain level of attainment on each of the seven rays in order to make our ascension. So it is a great boon to learn about and study with the seven chohans.
The seven chohans and their rays are El Morya on the first ray of God’s will, Lanto on the second ray of illumination, Paul the Venetian on the third ray of love, Serapis Bey on the fourth ray of purity, Hilarion on the fifth ray of truth and healing, Nada on the sixth ray of peace, and Saint Germain on the seventh ray of freedom. The Maha Chohan is the head of the seven chohans.
